The Gifted Kids – Michael Phelps
American swimmer, Michael Phelps is certainly a “gifted kid”. At only age 26, he has already won 16 Olympic medals – six gold and two bronze at Athens in 2004. In Beijing in 2008 he excelled again, winning eight medals at a single “Olympics”. This was achieved only by Soviet gymnast, Alexander Dityatin in Moscow at the 1980 “Summer Games”. At five individual gold medals, he tied fellow American, Eric Heiden’s record set in 1980 “Winter Olympics” and it equals Vitaly Scherbo at the 1992 Summer Games. Phelps holds the record for the most gold medals won in a single Olympic games. The eight medals he won at the “2008 Beijing Games” surpassed American swimmer, Mark Spitz’s remarkable performance at “Munich Olympics” in 1972 of seven gold medals.
“The Gifted Kid”, Michael Phelps earned Sports Illustrated magazine’s Sportsman of the Year award for his 2008 Beijing Olympic Games results. The song in the background is a tribute to “The Gifted Kids” in every endeavor. We hope it will be used to inspire kids to strive to excel and at the same time, validate overachievers.
