Malvern Rapper, Jair Dynast will deliver the keynote address at Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Imagine Student Success Conference.  The theme of this year’s conference is Character Development.

Due to the prolonged strike at York University, this year’s event is hosted by Ryerson University, George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre on:

February 17th Keynote Address at 10:00 a.m. for students in Grades 7-12 from across the TDSB.

Malvern rapper, Jair Dynast is determined to spark debate about the negative stereotypes of hip hop culture and change attitudes by quietly inspiring youngsters that experience adversity.

After Eastern Commerce, Jair traveled to Connecticut in pursuit of a basketball scholarship achieving success at a Division I JUCO in Texas. However, fate was unkind to Jair a year into his athletic scholarship – he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a condition that often kills young athletes suddenly.

Jair, means ‘one whom God has enlightened’ so he quickly turned his adversity into opportunity.  Having grown up in a household filled with music, he accompanied his parents to free outdoor concerts at Ontario Place as a new immigrant from Barbados. Jair switched to music to gain solace from the discomfort he felt from not being able to play and keep his scholarship.

His debut album, V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E., achieved RapReviews Top 10 Album of the Year, along with the #1 single on the Top 30 Grassroots Hip Hop Charts. Features in Blues & Soul, Knowledge Magazines, U.K., Nation-News, Barbados, two showcases at the CMJ Music Marathon and others followed. In two months, over 34k fans have viewed Jair’s music video, ‘Simple Plan’ on: YouTube, Vimeo and Imeem combined.

Sanctioned by the TDSB, Jair will conduct 9-shows/workshops at Toronto schools for African Heritage Month and has written ‘Art of Invention’, a song paying tribute to the significant contributions African-Americans made to modern society. The song’s video and free mp3 become available from jairdynast.net in February. ThisInventionIsBlack.com will pay tribute to the inventors, highlight their contributions and offer inner-city kids a place of inspiration all year.

On February 17, Jair Dynast will deliver the Keynote Address at the Imagine Student Success Conference.

Several people have lost homes within recent months and may be looking for solace. Of the few million people that have lost jobs, some could be sick at home or in a hospital with no visitors and no friends to cheer them up. Despair could be setting in for some with nothing to cherish but memories. One very remarkable way of coping, is the thought of using music to place the mind at ease or to use as a crutch. Will music replace a good friend? This is highly doubtful but it could be an excellent substitute in an hour of need.

Music is a powerful tool that can be used as a coping mechanism for the common good. It can bridge generational gaps, cross party-lines, cross gender lines and motivate people to act or accomplish goals. Famous athletes as well as Presidents have acknowledged that they have successfully used music, specifically hip hop music as one of their motivational or relaxation tools.

It is an undeniable fact that music can calm nerves, ease depression, uplift spirits and provide relaxation so it may be well worth the 99-cents that iTunes charges for a download. It is indeed a small price to pay for something that is so powerful and can provide entertainment 24-hours a day all year repeatedly on iPods, mp3 players, iPhones, a Blackberry or some other chosen listening device.

Music also allows for exploration, knowledge expansion as well as the opportunity to learn new, interesting facts about other people’s lives and experiences. One such person is an emerging artist that is quickly blazing onto the hip hop music scene with a unique metaphor-laden style of rap.

Music critics say: he is “well on his way to becoming one of hip hop’s most prolific artists” and Adam Bernard said: “I was instantly drawn to his song ‘Pull Up.’ Dope music and even doper story”. This artist is now producing the Vanguard Series – an eclectic mix of singles that has similar characteristics to music from Earl Klugh or Nas – a cross-blend of Caribbean as well as electronic sounds but with heavy drums and strings.

Who is this rapper? Jair Dynast, his space – a rap music community social network has been launched. Feel free to join, learn about this artist, interact with others that share in his passion, watch music videos and be a part of his inspiring musical journey with The Vanguard monthly Series.
